I liked learning about juicy words and how they make my story better.

Taking stories from good to great.

With five 75 minutes sessions and a little independent effort, your child will end the program with a polished short story and an opportunity to share it in a special reading event.

 Who should sign up?

This workshop is designed for children between the ages of 9 and 12 and should be reserved for those who are independent learners with eager imaginations. Children must be able to write sentences and paragraphs without assistance and should come with the first draft of a completed story. Designed as a follow-up to the Spring Writer’s Café, children are encouraged to bring the story they wrote during that workshop. Children who did not attend the prerequisite are still welcome and asked to bring along a short story they’ve written. This is an interactive workshop and children will be invited to share their thoughts and answers, but only if they are comfortable doing so. This workshop is only open to 10 children/session, so sign up now to reserve your spot!

What happens at each session?

Your child will be sharing space with up to nine other story tellers. We will do some review of the lessons shared in the Writing Café, but most time will be dedicated to workshopping stories, learning how to self edit and peer edit, and polishing works so that they can be shared in a public '‘author reading” on Tuesday, October 25. A hot chocolate station will provide a little break in the middle of each session and some fuel for their editing time. Each child needs to come prepared with their story printed out. We will be working on paper. If other tools are required, these will be provided.

Parents are invited to stay and visit quietly in the foyer if you wish.

Encouraging your children through kind conversation and gentle instruction.
